Meaning & history of the Serbia flag
Serbia's flag is a horizontal tricolour of red, blue and white — the Pan-Slavic colours in reverse of Russia's — with the coat of arms set toward the hoist. The arms bear a double-headed white eagle and a shield with a cross and four Cyrillic 'S' firesteels, standing for the motto 'Only Unity Saves the Serbs'. The colours date to the 19th-century independence era.
