Meaning & history of the Russia flag
Russia's flag is a horizontal tricolour of white, blue and red, introduced by Tsar Peter the Great in the late 17th century and inspired by the Dutch flag. The colours are popularly read as nobility and frankness (white), faithfulness and honesty (blue), and courage and love (red). Suppressed in the Soviet era, it was restored in 1991.
