Meaning & history of the Sudan flag
Sudan's flag has red, white and black horizontal bands with a green triangle at the hoist — the Pan-Arab colours. Red represents the struggle and the blood of martyrs, white peace, optimism and light, black the name 'Sudan' (which means black) and the nationalist revolution, and the green triangle Islam, agriculture and prosperity. It was adopted in 1970.
