Meaning & history of the Ireland flag
Ireland's flag is a vertical tricolour of green, white and orange. Green represents the Gaelic and Catholic tradition, orange the Protestant community descended from supporters of William of Orange, and the white between them the hope for lasting peace between the two. First flown in 1848, it became the national flag of the Irish state.
