Meaning & history of the Vatican City flag

Vatican City's flag is one of only two square national flags: two vertical bands of yellow and white, with the papal emblem — the crossed keys of Saint Peter beneath the triple tiara — on the white. The gold and silver keys represent the spiritual and temporal authority of the Holy See, and yellow and white the colours of the papacy. It dates to 1929.
