Meaning & history of the Vanuatu flag

Vanuatu's flag has a black triangle at the hoist bearing a boar's tusk encircling two crossed namele fern fronds, with red and green horizontal bands split by a black-edged yellow Y-shape. Red is the blood of unity, green the islands' fertility, black the Melanesian people, and the yellow Y the light of the gospel over the Pacific islands. The tusk and ferns signify prosperity and peace.
