Meaning & history of the Turkmenistan flag

Turkmenistan's flag is green with a vertical red-ground carpet stripe of five traditional 'gül' motifs near the hoist, a white crescent and five stars above, and two crossed olive branches below. Green and the crescent represent Islam, the five stars the provinces, and the five carpet güls the major tribes. It is among the most intricate and detailed national flags.
