Meaning & history of the Taiwan flag

Taiwan's flag (the Republic of China) is red with a blue canton bearing a white sun of twelve rays. Red represents the land and the fraternity of the people, blue the sky and liberty, and white the sun of equality. The twelve rays of the 'White Sun' symbolise the twelve two-hour periods of the day and a spirit of unceasing progress.
