Meaning & history of the Somalia flag

Somalia's flag is light blue with a large white five-pointed star centred. The blue field was originally inspired by the flag of the United Nations, which oversaw the territory before independence. The white 'Star of Unity' has five points representing the regions where Somali people traditionally live, expressing the aspiration to unite them. It dates to 1954.
