Meaning & history of the Saudi Arabia flag

Saudi Arabia's flag is green bearing the Islamic declaration of faith (the Shahada) in white Arabic calligraphy above a horizontal sword. Green is the traditional colour of Islam. Because it carries the sacred creed, the flag is never lowered to half-mast and is printed with mirrored text so the inscription reads correctly on both sides.
