North Korea's flag has a broad red central band edged with thin white and blue stripes, and a white disc near the hoist bearing a red five-pointed star. Red symbolises the revolutionary traditions, the star communism and the revolution, blue the will to unite with worldwide revolutionary forces, and white purity. It was adopted in 1948.
