Meaning & history of the Libya flag

Libya's flag has red, black and green horizontal bands, the black being double height, with a white crescent and star centred. It revives the flag of the independent Kingdom of Libya (1951), restored in 2011 after the fall of Gaddafi, whose regime had used a plain green flag. The crescent and star are traditional symbols of Islam.
