Meaning & history of the Kyrgyzstan flag

Kyrgyzstan's flag is red with a golden sun of 40 rays, its centre showing the crossed roof-poles (tunduk) of a traditional yurt. The 40 rays represent the 40 tribes united by the legendary hero Manas, and the red field recalls his banner. The tunduk, the crown of a nomad's home, symbolises family, the homeland and the unity of the nation.
