Kiribati's flag has a golden frigatebird flying over a rising sun on a red upper half, above blue and white wavy bands representing the Pacific Ocean. The three white stripes stand for the country's three island groups, the 17 sun rays for the islands, the frigatebird for command of the sea and freedom, and the sun for the equatorial location.
