Meaning & history of the Iran flag

Iran's flag has green, white and red horizontal bands with the national emblem centred and the phrase 'Allahu Akbar' repeated 22 times in stylised Kufic script along the band edges. Green stands for Islam and vitality, white for peace, and red for courage and martyrdom. The central emblem is a stylised form of the word 'Allah'. It dates to the 1979 revolution.
