Meaning & history of the Georgia flag

Georgia's flag is white with a large central red cross and four smaller red 'Bolnisi' crosses in the quarters — the five-cross flag. It revives a medieval banner of the Kingdom of Georgia and carries strong Christian symbolism, the crosses representing Christ and the four Evangelists. Adopted in 2004, it replaced the flag of the post-Soviet era.
