Meaning & history of the Gambia flag

The Gambia's flag has red, blue and green horizontal bands separated by thin white stripes. Red represents the sun and the savannah, blue the River Gambia that defines the country and flows through its centre, and green the land and agriculture. The white stripes stand for peace and unity. It is a purely geographic, apolitical design from 1965.
