Meaning & history of the Dominica flag

Dominica's flag is green with a centred cross of yellow, black and white stripes and a red disc bearing a Sisserou parrot ringed by ten green stars. The green field is the lush island, the cross the Christian faith, and the three colours the Indigenous people, African heritage and clear waters. The rare parrot, found only on Dominica, makes it one of few flags to feature purple.
