Cuba's flag has three blue stripes alternating with two white, and a red triangle at the hoist bearing a white five-pointed star. The three blue stripes stood for the island's original divisions, white for the purity of the independence ideal, and the red triangle for the blood and equality of the revolution, with the 'Lone Star' representing freedom. It dates to 1849.
