Meaning & history of the Congo flag

The Republic of the Congo's flag is divided diagonally, with a yellow band running from lower hoist to upper fly separating green (upper) from red (lower). These Pan-African colours represent the forests and agriculture (green), friendship and nobility (yellow), and the struggle for independence (red). Adopted in 1959, dropped under Marxist rule, it was restored in 1991.
