Meaning & history of the Central African Republic flag

The Central African Republic's flag uniquely joins the Pan-African and French tricolour palettes: four horizontal bands of blue, white, green and yellow crossed by a vertical red stripe, with a gold star at the top hoist. Its designer Barthélemy Boganda intended red to bind the colours — and the peoples of Africa and Europe — together in common blood.
