Meaning & history of the Cape Verde flag

Cape Verde's flag has a blue field crossed by white-red-white horizontal bands offset below centre, with a ring of ten yellow stars. Blue represents the surrounding Atlantic Ocean and sky, the white and red bands the road to nationhood and effort, and the ten stars the ten main islands of the archipelago. It replaced the earlier Pan-African design in 1992.
