Meaning & history of the Brazil flag
Brazil's flag is a green field with a large yellow rhombus and a blue celestial globe crossed by a white band reading 'Ordem e Progresso' (Order and Progress). The globe depicts the night sky over Rio de Janeiro on 15 November 1889, the day the republic was proclaimed, with each star representing a state. Green and yellow derive from the former imperial dynasties.
