Meaning & history of the Bhutan flag

Bhutan's flag is divided diagonally into yellow (upper hoist) and orange, with a white dragon holding jewels across the centre. Yellow represents the secular authority of the king, orange the Buddhist spiritual tradition. The dragon — Druk, the Thunder Dragon that gives Bhutan its native name — holds jewels for wealth, and its snarling mouth expresses the strength protecting the country.
