Meaning & history of the Barbados flag

Barbados' flag has two ultramarine bands framing a golden centre bearing a black trident head. The blue represents the sea and sky, the gold the island's sand. The broken trident — its shaft removed — symbolises a break with Barbados's colonial past, its three points standing for the principles of democracy: government of, for and by the people.
