Meaning & history of the Bahamas flag

The Bahamas' flag shows a black triangle at the hoist over horizontal bands of aquamarine, gold and aquamarine. The aquamarine stripes represent the surrounding sea, the gold the sun and beaches, and the black triangle the strength and unity of the Bahamian people, its shape pointing toward the nation's natural resources. It was adopted at independence in 1973.
