Meaning & history of the Albania flag

Albania's flag shows a black double-headed eagle on a deep red field. The eagle traces back to the 15th-century national hero Skanderbeg, who led resistance against the Ottomans, and the two heads echo Byzantine imperial imagery. Red stands for the bravery and blood of the Albanian people. It is one of the few flags built around a heraldic bird alone.
