Vietnam's flag is red with a large golden-yellow five-pointed star centred. Red represents the revolution and the blood shed in the long struggle for independence, and the gold star the leadership of the communist party, its five points symbolising the unity of workers, peasants, soldiers, intellectuals and youth in building socialism. It was adopted in 1955.
