Mauritius's flag, known as 'Les Quatre Bandes', has four horizontal bands of red, blue, yellow and green. Red represents the struggle for freedom and independence, blue the Indian Ocean surrounding the island, yellow the light of independence shining over the nation, and green the year-round lush agriculture and vegetation. It was adopted in 1968.
