Chad's flag is a vertical tricolour of blue, gold and red. Blue represents the sky, hope and the waters of the south, gold the sun and the northern desert, and red progress, unity and sacrifice. The flag is nearly identical to Romania's, differing only in a slightly darker blue — a coincidence that has prompted diplomatic complaints.
